The most popular colors of Agates are Moss, Black, Lace, Batswana, Mexican Fire, White, Eye, Plume, Grey, Orange, Red and even Died Agates.  The rarest and most expensive Agate colors are the green and blue.  Banded, Riband or Striped Agates are a formation from lava within a cavity where cooler lava has shaped into a nodule.

Agates form by volcanic rock erupting to the surface and then hardens, all while containing water and carbon dioxide.  This will bubble out, once the rock is filled with holes the water containing silica percolates through the rock causing the minerals in the water to begin to crystallize out, and one of those minerals is quartz.  Ninety percent of the Agate stone is quartz, sometimes Agates will form a lot of those tiny quartz crystals, adding to the already unique marbling and beauty to each individual stone, giving this stone the name; Drusy, often misspelled as Duzy.

Naturalist, Theophrastus, an ancient Greek philosopher, discovered thousands of years ago a stone along the shore of the Achates River.  This stone was also found at several ancient ruins, shown to be used for hardstone carvings, or found for its ancient healing properties, good fortune, wealth, the stimulation of fertility and even more mystical beliefs that are behind this popular stone.

In current times the Agate with its slight translucency is known now for its beauty and variety of colors, great for anyone whose birthstone is Agate.  People with September Birthdays are fortunate enough to have stone that never fails to dress you in a variety colors and for everyday of the weak.
